Hair thinning and hair loss are extremely common and can affect both men and women in different ways. For some, it happens gradually over time, while others may notice sudden thinning or unexpected patches.
At Clarity Hair Solutions, I understand how much hair loss can affect confidence, social situations and everyday life. The good news is that there are more options than ever available to help restore both your hair and your confidence.
Common causes of hair thinning and hair loss
Genetics
One of the most common causes of hair loss in men is genetics, often referred to as male pattern baldness.
This generally starts at the front hairline, where the hair begins to recede, or on the crown, where a patch becomes more noticeable. Over time, these areas will spread across the top of the head, causing a horseshoe-shaped pattern to form.
This pattern of hair loss is actually what allows custom-fit hair systems to blend so naturally with existing hair. Because it never spreads to the sides or lower back area, we can create a seamless match using a bespoke-fit system tailored to your hair colour, density and style.
Alopecia
Alopecia is another cause of hair thinning or hair loss and affects both men and women. Because alopecia can come and go, a hair system is the perfect choice. If the hair returns, there is no lasting impact or scarring from wearing a system.
You simply take off the system, shave the head, and the new growth is unaffected. No amount of shaving will stop the growth.
Thyroid conditions
Thyroid problems have also caused hair loss and thinning over the years, more so in women. This can leave the hair looking thinner around the front and top, making it harder to style and often affecting confidence.
Thankfully, there are still lots of options available. Toppers and lightweight systems can create fuller-looking hair while still looking completely natural and easy to manage day to day.
Other causes
Hair loss can also be caused by:
- Stress
- Ageing
- Medication
- Hormonal changes
- Damage from overstyling or excessive heat
For some people, thinning develops slowly over many years, while others notice more rapid changes over a shorter period.
Hair loss in men vs women
Hair loss often presents differently in men and women.
In men, thinning is usually more concentrated around the hairline and crown. In women, thinning is often more diffuse, meaning the hair gradually becomes thinner across the top and front rather than forming obvious bald patches.
Toppers are a popular option for women. These clip-on hair systems add thickness and coverage around the front and top of the hair without requiring shaving. Toppers can help create fuller-looking hair, fringes or face-framing layers while still feeling lightweight and natural.
While many of my clients are male, I also welcome female clients. So, ladies, if you are looking for a solution or styling advice, get in touch, and I can genuinely help you feel like yourself again.
Can you slow or reverse thinning hair?
The answer depends on the cause of the hair loss.
In some cases, hair may return naturally over time, particularly with conditions such as alopecia. In other cases, thinning may continue gradually over the years.
When should you seek advice?
Many people wait years before speaking to someone about their hair loss, often because they feel embarrassed or unsure about their options.
It may be worth seeking advice if you notice:
- Sudden or rapid hair loss
- Patchy areas of thinning
- A receding hairline or crown thinning
- Hair loss affecting your confidence or social life
- Difficulty styling or managing your hair
At Clarity Hair Solutions, we understand how this can affect your confidence, personal life and social occasions. Our consultations are relaxed, private and designed to help you understand what options may work best for you. Every system is adjusted to your personal situation.
We are here to help you at any point in your hair loss journey, and because systems can be adapted as your hair changes, it’s never too early or too late to solve it. As thinning progresses, systems can be adjusted to suit your current level of hair loss and desired style.
What options are available?
There are now many different ways to manage hair thinning and hair loss.
Some people prefer temporary styling solutions such as fibres or concealers, while others want surgical treatments such as hair transplants.
For many, non-surgical hair systems offer a more practical and flexible option.
Custom hair systems
If you are worried your hair solution will not appear natural, a custom hair system could be the perfect solution for you. We do not follow a one-size-fits-all approach, so every system is matched to the individual, meaning you won’t walk away with a thick, unrealistic style if it doesn’t match you.
Whether that means a softer receding hairline, a greying system to match your age, or an afro-textured system, we match every detail a 100% to the client.
Hairline, hair density, and hair colour are all chosen and matched in consultation. We will choose a style together that looks good and is easy to maintain. This can even be changed over the course of your maintenance appointments.
Clients often start with a style they have in mind, then change to a shorter version for ease. Options are open as they would be if the hair were growing naturally.
More about our Hair SystemsToppers
Instead of shaving and fitting systems, toppers are another popular choice, especially among women. These lightweight, clip-on systems don’t need shaving and can be taken off when not needed. I can supply and style toppers to give you more or thicker-looking hair around the front and top (where the thinning is more obvious), or to create a fringe or some lovely face-framing layers.
Once fitted and styled, you can clip on whenever needed. If you are struggling or just want to treat yourself, I’m happy to fit and blow-dry whenever you need. Because ladies, don’t shy away from salons just because your hair is thinning; you deserve to be made to feel good, too. I promise I can make the salon a happy place for you again at Clarity Hair Solutions.
No matter your chosen solution, my goal at Clarity Hair Solutions is always to help you feel like yourself again, with a hairstyle that looks natural and feels manageable day to day.
